The Bone Density Center located at the Menlo Medical Clinic is pleased to offer patients the latest technology for Osteoporosis and Osteopenia screening in a personalized and comfortable environment.

Our state-of-the-art GE-Lunar “Prodigy” bone densitometer (DXA) determines bone density at the hip and spine using DXA technology, the most widely accepted way to screen, diagnose and track osteoporosis and osteopenia.  The radiation exposure from this machine is five to seven times less than that of earlier-generation equipment. (The exposure is ten times less than that of a four-view mammogram.)

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break.  It affects millions of women and men and is a leading cause of hip and vertebral fracture, loss of height and disability.  If not prevented or treated, Osteoporosis can progress without symptoms, yet it is easily and safely diagnosed through bone densitometry.  The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends bone density screening for women under age 65 with one or more risk factors and for women age 65 and over regardless of other risk factors.

A bone densitometry appointment takes less than 30 minutes and is covered by most health insurance plans. Your referring physician will usually receive a follow up report within three business days of the appointment.

For more information or to request the procedure, please contact your primary care physician.  With a physician requisition, an appointment can be easily scheduled by calling (650) 724-3660.
